And, now after 10 years on the job, the odometer has just passed 200,000 – two hundred thousand - miles! Riverbank Motors owner Andy Goldstein still remembers the day Chuck bought the car. “Our sons played youth hockey together, so I knew Chuck. I remember selling him the Passat and couldn’t be more proud of the fact that it served him and his family so well for 10 years…and 200,000 miles!” Ringel adds, “I can honestly say, I’ve never had any problems with it. It still has the original engine and the original transmission. I always had it serviced at Riverbank and always was more than satisfied with the treatment both I and the car received.” 10-Year Riverbank Love Affair Continues: Passes from Father to Son This past October, the Passat changed hands, but it’s still in the family. It now lives in the Tampa, Florida area and is owned by Chuck’s son, Keith. And its future is brighter than ever, as Keith owns his own auto repair shop and has promised his dad that the car will be handled with care and receive every bit of attention it needs. Keith fondly remembers the many times he “Climbed into that car for those 6 am hockey practices in the middle of the winter. The thing I liked best about it was that the Passat’s seat heaters (or as I used to call them, ‘butt-warmers’) worked very well and they worked very quickly.. That made getting up so much easier.” And Now The Beginning of Another Beautiful Relationship? Anyone Wanna’ Bet Against 300,000? Once he passed along his beloved Passat to his son, Chuck Ringel then needed another car. Not to tempt fate, he went back to exactly the same place he started – again Riverbank Motors. And, again, he met with Andy Goldstein. And he again walked out with a new Passat, this time a 2009CC. And Chuck is confident that this car will be as good if not even better than his old reliable. “I’m shooting for 300,000 miles with this one. Get back to me in 20 years and I’ll let you know how I’m doing.”
